Build it and they will come
Build it and they will come, I think this statement was once indeed true. Open a business in a good location that served the local community well – this was a solid business plan of old.
Now it’s – Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Social Media Optimization (SMO), and Social Media Marketing (SMM), it and they will come is more like it. You can have the greatest location on the planet, selling a great product, and still be saying to yourself, it must be the economy.
Nope, your invisible to the generation that actually is spending the money. The social, mobile, web 2.0 generation, that if you dont show up on their iPhone, Droid, or tablet, they dont even know you exist. If I can’t check in on Foursquare, I’m not going to go in at all, thats no fun! If I can’t like you, and share my experience on Facebook, again I’m not there. And lets not forget, if you didnt have the proper Search Engine Optimization (SEO) in place, I wouldn’t be checking in on FourSquare, liking you on Facebook, and tweeting about you, and ultimately spending my money in the first place. (Why? Cause you dont exist to me, that’s why!)
I didn’t even get into Google+ and Google Places this time around.
Social MarCom is no longer an option, you must do it.
