Value is in the i of the beholder…

Value. Besides the word transparency, I dont think there is another word more over used today. Value, this. Value, that.
What is value? Well I think everyone can answer this slightly different. And depending on what the product or services is, the same person can alter their own value perception from purchase to purchase.
For example, I hold the term value in a different light when buying a car vs. filling up my tank with gas. When buying gas, I look for the cheapest “cash” price. Buying a car on the other hand is much different, otherwise I would be driving a Yugo (and I don’t).
Value has become synonymous with cheap, or cheaper than… I am always interested in saving a buck, but cheap is expensive, we’ve all heard that before. In my value assessment I rank quality atop the list, I will pay for something that will last. I will pay up for something that does what it is supposed to do, and if it doesn’t the company will stand behind their product/brand. There is value in that!
I can go on and on here, but to boil this down. Value is really dictated by the person on the other side of the transaction (the buyer), and what driver makes them buy yours vs the others, and sometimes pay more than the others. I personally always look to the market leader “the well known brand” first to use as the benchmark, I dont always buy the brand though, because there is sometimes a better value that exists out there.
You know this was coming… The use of Social Media can help promote and strengthen your value proposition (value prop), but not just displaying your product or listing out your services, but also showing some of the aforementioned elements that I, personally value. Good quality and client/customer support.
Common term used in sales, and Alec Baldwin said it best in Glengarry Glen Ross. ABC. Always – Be – Closing. I like, Always – Be – Communicating as well. Provide a good product and service? Get people to Socialize that experience and add value to your offering. There is value for me to know that 6 other people recently worked with your company and had a great experience!
Social MarCom is all around you. That is the noise you hear, the scent you smell, and the opportunity you see. All aboard.
Until next time, Stay Social…
